Rare are those musicians capable of creating their own space-time continuum. After years of activity in the French underground, Adrien Kanter seems to have reached a far-off place of pure artistic inspiration – free from trends, quotes and gimmicks. Born in the Paris suburbs, deeply influenced by a music-loving grandmother, Adrien first came to music rather late. As an adult, guided both by his instinct and certain encounters, he fled the world of work he found suffocating to dedicate himself entirely to music. He has hence been known to perform in Parisian activist DIY noise trio Looking For John, cult free-rock band Le Reveil des Tropiques, retromaniac synthpop duo Trésors (check BLWBCK063), and dada harsh noise combo Eddie 135. These several lives spent on the roads of France, Japan and the USA have nurtured his thirst for independence, and favored his never-ending search for new inspiration, sounds and collaborations.
These days, Adrien Kanter has become a well-sought after musician in the worlds of Theatre and Dance and has collaborated with artists of the likes of Tommy Milliot, Ousmane Sy and Das Plateau. These experiences have deepened his ability to write voyaging narrative music that has the power to alter the listener's perception of reality. After Infinites Réflexions, his first solo album released in 2017, Kanter delivers with Mont Falco his most accomplished work to date. Recorded in the Savoie mountains where he now lives and has his studio, this new record succeeds in invoking a long dreamed-of past - a time when creativity was unrestrained and encouraged by quests of eternity and transcendence. Even though he mentions a few unapproachable spiritual fathers (John Coltrane, Neil Young, Elliott Smith...), Adrien Kanter paves his own path, somewhere between cosmic folk-rock, progressive electronic music, psychedelic electricity and intimate pop. At this key-moment of his life, Adrien Kanter is fully channelled to certain existential changes (his fatherhood, a recent move to the countryside and new-found connection to nature...). Mont Falco is a highly personal work, a spontaneous manifest by a musician whose inspiration never ceases to reaffirm itself - a vessel of unfamiliar warmth and light.
